Children on horses

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Eighty Jefferson County students will have the opportunity to participate in “Horse Power Summer,” a program designed to offer engaging activities after a long school year of unexpected events due to the Covid-19 virus

The camp is being held at Horses with Heart in Berkeley County, W.va.  The first week will include working with the Boys and Girls Club; the second week will be with students from Ranson Elementary School; the third week with students from North Jefferson Elementary School; and the fourth week with students from Driswood Elementary School.

The students will rotate through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) stations and two horse stations where they will become acquainted with various activities involving horses and ponies.  All activities will be held outside in a big tent with fans and water in use.

This program was made possible by a grant, applied for by Mary Lind, Coordinator of Elementary Schools, Pre-K - 2 Grade, from the Benedum Foundation, which has provided support for specific initiatives in West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania since 1944.
