Tara Mahoney Named Blue Ridge Principal

Jefferson County Schools (JCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tara Mahoney as the new principal of Blue Ridge Elementary School (BRE). A native of West Virginia and a lifelong educator, Ms. Mahoney brings nearly 30 years of experience serving students, teachers, families, and communities in public education.

"It is with great excitement and humility that I step into this role," said Mahoney. "I believe schools are at their best when strong relationships are at the center of everything we do. I remain committed to supporting high-quality instruction, fostering a love of learning, and ensuring that every child is known, valued, challenged, and supported."

Ms. Mahoney says her first priority will be getting to know the Blue Ridge community — its students, staff, families, and traditions. She sees the school's unique campus and character as a strength, and an opportunity to bring students and staff across both buildings together as one unified school community.

"I look forward to listening, learning, and building meaningful relationships as we work together to celebrate the strengths that already exist within our school while identifying opportunities for continued growth and excellence," she said. "The best schools are built through partnerships, trust, and a shared commitment to doing what is best for children."

"Ms. Mahoney is a relationship-driven leader with deep West Virginia roots and a genuine love for this work," said JCS Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bishop. "Blue Ridge families can be confident their school is in experienced, caring hands."

As Ms. Mahoney told the Blue Ridge community: "Together, we will continue building a school where every student feels welcomed, every staff member is valued, and every child has the opportunity to ROAR — after all, we are the lions!"
